Procedure
A mixture of (3-((R)-2-((R)-1-phenylethylamino)propyl)phenyl)methanol hydrochloride (Example 276, step b) (1.92 g), 20% palladium hydroxide on carbon (0.757 g) and ammonium formate (2.28 g) in ethanol (30 mL) was stirred at 75° C. for 1.5 hours, then allowed to cool. The suspension was filtered through diatomaceous earth, washing the residue well with ethanol. The combined filtrate and washings were concentrated in vacuo to afford a pale yellow gum as a mixture of desired product and des-hydroxy analogue. Yield 1.54 g. Used directly
