To a solution of 1-chloro-4-(3,3-dimethylpiperazin-1-yl)phthalazine (540 mg, 2 mmol) in 10 mL of dichloromethane was added triethylamine (0.56 mL, 4 mmol, 2 eq), followed by benzoyl chloride (0.26 mL, 2.2 mmol, 1.1 eq). The reaction was stirred at rt for 30 min and diluted with 100 mL of ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with 1×10 mL of sat. NaHCO3 solution and 1×10 mL of sat. NaCl solution. Purification by column chromatography (100:2 dichloromethane:methanol) afforded 1-(3,3-dimethylpiperazin-1-yl)-4-phenylphthalazine (BSL-7). 1H-NMR (400 Mhz) δ 1.65 (s, 6H), 3.46 (s, 2H), 3.63 (m, 4H), 7.34 (m, 3H), 7.42 (m, 3H), 7.42 (m, 3H), 7.83 (m, 2H), 8.03 (m, 1H), 8.17 (m, 1H).
