Procedure
To 1-(4-bromophenyl)ethanone (8 g, 40.2 mmol) in 150 mL of THF was added MeMgCl (3.0 M in THF, 40 mL, 120 mmol) at −78° C. The reaction was stirred at rt overnight, and quenched with 150 mL of aqueous NH4Cl. The product was extracted with 250 mL of EtOAc, and the extracts were dried over anhydrous MgSO4, and concentrated to give 2-(4-bromophenyl)propan-2-ol, which was used without further purification.
