To a solution of 220 mg of the crude tert-butyl[(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl][(3-phenylpiperidin-4-yl)methyl]carbamate and 0.104 mL of triethylamine in 4.0 mL of THF was added 127 mg of methyl 4-[(chlorocarbonyl)oxy]benzoate (Fluka) at room temperature. After stirring at room temperature for 1 hour, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate) to obtain 264 mg of 4-(methoxycarbonyl)phenyl 4-({(tert-butoxycarbonyl)[(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl]amino}methyl)-3-phenylpiperidine-1-carboxylate in the form of a colorless amorphous substance as a crude product.
