Procedure

To 112 mg of methyl 2-[4-({(tert-butoxycarbonyl)[(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl]amino}methyl)-3-phenylpiperidin-1-yl]-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate were added 2.0 mL of THF, 1.0 mL of methanol and 1.0 mL of a 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, followed by stirring at 60° C. overnight. To the mixture was added 1.1 mL of 1 M hydrochloric acid, followed by concentration under reduced pressure, and to the residue were added chloroform and anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and dried to obtain 116 mg of a colorless foamy substance of 2-[4-({(tert-butoxycarbonyl)[(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl]amino}methyl)-3-phenylpiperidin-1-yl]-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid as a crude product.
