Procedure

To ((R)—N—((R)-1-(2-chloro-4-methoxy-5-methylphenyl)ethyl)-2-methylpropane-2-sulfinamide (0.64 g, 2.1 mmol) was added 10% hydrogen chloride in methanol (10 ml), and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was evaporated and dried in vacuo to give the title compound (crude 0.63 g) as white solid. This amine was used for the next step without further purification.
