Procedure
Under N2 atmosphere, ethyl 2-formyl-1-cyclopropanecarboxylate (3.0 g, 21.1 mmol, 1.2 eq) and piperidine (1.5 g, 17.6 mmol, 1.0 eq) were dissolved in DCM (45 mL); after 2 hours at room temperature, the mixture was cooled at 0° C. and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (5.6 g, 26.4 mmol, 1.5 eq) was added dropwise. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2.5 hours, then the organic phase was washed with NaOH aq and water to give 3.3 g of the title product (yield 89%).
