To a solution of 8-[2,6-dichloro-3-[N-(2-phthalimidoethyl)carbamoyl]benzyloxy]-2-methylquinoline (390 mg) in N,N-dimethylformamide (4 ml) was added sodium hydride (32.1 mg) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at the same temperature. Methyl iodide (114 mg) was added thereto under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at the same temperature and for 2 hours at ambient temperature. To the mixture was added water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (chloroform:ethyl acetate=3:1, V/V) to give 8-(2,6-dichloro-3-[N-methyl-N-(2-phthalimidoethyl)carbamoyl]benzyloxy]-2-methylquinoline (360 mg) as colorless amorphous.
