Procedure

Stir the product of Step C (49.5 g, 0.22 mole), 1,3-propane dithiol (103.6 g, 0.96 mole) and triethylamine (101.0 g, 1.0 mole) in methanol (1500 ml) for 72 hours. Cool to 0° C., filter and evaporate in vacuo to obtain 2-amino-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methylthiophenyl)ethanol.
