Procedure
A solution of 1-phenyl-4-chloromethyltetrazoline-5-thione (4.53 g) and potassium phthalimide (4.00 g) in 50 ml dimethylformamide was heated at 55° C. for 2 hours. The solution was poured into water. Ethyl acetate extractive workup gave a colorless solid. Recrystallization from ethanol afforded a colorless solid, m.p. 130°-134° C. (2.75 g).
