Procedure
In a 500-cm3 four-necked flask in which the atmosphere was replaced with nitrogen, 16.6 g of fluorene were dissolved in 150 cm3 of tetrahydrofuran, followed by treating the solution with methyllithium, thereby obtaining a tetrahydrofuran solution of fluorenyllithium. Next, 200 cm3 of a tetrahydrofuran solution containing 10.4 g of previously synthesized 1,4-biscyclopentadienylidenecyclohexane were added dropwise to the tetrahydrofuran solution at -10° C. over 30 minutes. After completion of the addition, the reaction temperature was elevated up to room temperature, followed by stirring for 15 hours. Then, 200 cm3 of a 3.6% hydrochloric acid solution were poured thereinto to bring the reaction to an end. The resultant solid was collected by filtration, washed with ether, and then dried to obtain 18.5 g of white powdery 1,4-dicyclopentadienyl-1,4-difluorenylcyclohexane.
