Procedure
After a mixture of 9.8 g of 3-fluoro-4-methoxybenzaldehyde, benzene, nitromethane, n-butylamine and acetic acid is refluxed, the reaction mixture is extracted with toluene. The extract is condensed, and the residue is recrystallized from a mixture of acetic acid and n-hexane. 10 g of α-nitro-3-fluoro-4-methoxystyrene are obtained.
