Procedure

The solution of 0.270 g of benzyl 3-[1-(2-aminoethyl)-7-bromo-3-methyl-1H-indol-6-ylmethoxy]-4-{4-[3-(2-methoxybenzyloxy)propoxy]phenyl}piperidine-1-carboxylate (Example 76b) in 1.5 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide is cooled to 0° C. and admixed successively with 0.066 g of N-succinimidyl N-methyl carbamate and 0.043 ml of triethylamine. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature over 2 hours, subsequently poured onto water (40 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (2×40 ml). The organic phases are washed successively with water (40 ml), 1M sodium hydrogencarbonate solution (40 ml) and brine (40 ml), dried over sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated by evaporation. The title compound is obtained as a brown oil from the residue by means of flash chromatography (SiO2 60F). Rf=0.10 (2:1 EtOAc-heptane); Rt=5.76.
