A mixture of 3-{[4-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propyl-phenoxymethyl)-phenyl]-hydroxy-methyl}-benzonitrile (3 g, 7.22 mmol), 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (2.3 mL, 15.2 mmol), diphenylphosphoryl azide (3.3 mL, 15.2 mmol) and tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) is stirred at 50° C. 2 hr. The mixture is concentrated and the crude residue is purified via silica chromatography eluting with hexanes to 7:3 hexanes:ethyl acetate to give the title compound 1.77 g, 56% as a white solid.
