Procedure

3.06 gm (10 millimols) of [1-(2'-fluoro-4 -biphenylyl)-ethylsulfinyl]-acetic acid of m.p. 164-165° C, were suspended in 50 ml of tetrahydrofuran, and 1.95 gm (12 millimols) of carbonyl-diimidazole were added to the suspension. The acid dissolved, accompanied by carbon dioxide evolution. After 20 minutes, dry methylamine was introduced until the mixture was saturated. After another hour, the mixture was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was taken up in a mixture of dilute hydrochloric acid and ether. 2.55 gm (80% of theory) of the title compound, m.p. 136-137° C, were obtained from the ether phase after washing, drying, evaporation and recrystallization from toleuen/cyclohexane = 1/1.
