Procedure
2.3 g (10 mmoles) of 4-(pyrazol-1-yl)phenylacetic acid ethyl ester are dissolved in 20 ml of dimethylformamide; 240 mg (10 mmoles) of sodium hydride are added, under nitrogen, with good cooling (ice, sodium chloride) and vigorous stirring is effected until hydrogen evolution subsides. A solution of 1.5 g of methyl iodide and 5 ml of dimethyl formamide is then added dropwise, and stirring at room temperature is subsequently effected over night. The reaction mixture is poured onto water and extracted with diethyl ether. The ethereal solution is concentrated to yield 2-[4-(pyrazol-1-yl)phenyl]propionic acid ethyl ester as oil.
