Procedure
The mixture of 1.0 g of 4-(1,2-benzisothiazol-3-yl)piperazine hydrochloride, 1.5 g of 7-(4-chlorobutyryl)-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,2-f][1,4]thiazepin-5(4H)-one, 2.5 g of potassium carbonate and 0.8 g of potassium iodide in 25 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide and 25 ml of toluene was stirred at 100° C. for 24 hours. After the mixture was cooled in a water bath, water was added thereto and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saline solution, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on a silica gel, dissolved in isopropyl alcohol and oxalic acid was added thereto to make oxalate. The resulting crystals were recrystallized from isopropyl alcohol to give 0.12 g of 7-(4-(4-(1,2-benzisothiazol-3-yl) piperazin-1-yl)butyryl)-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,2-f][1,4]thiazepin-5(4H)-one oxalate 1/2 hydrate as white crystals, m.p. 118°-120° C.
