To a solution of the product from Example 10, Step A (2.80 g, 8.72 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (40 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of potassium t-butoxide in t-butanol (1M, 9.16 mL, 9.16 mmol) followed by 4-methoxybenzyl chloride (1.78 g, 11.34 mmol). The solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 4 h, poured into 2N HCl (50 mL), diluted with water (150 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×120 mL). The combined extracts were dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated to give a viscous oil (3.91 g) which was used in the next step.
