Procedure

A mixture of 6-methoxy-3-[2-[1-(phenylmethyl)-4-piperidinyl]ethyl]-1,2-benzisoxazole (0.1.1 g, 0.288 mmol) in 48% aqueous HBr (10 mL) was heated at 110° C. for 16 hours. The mixture was made basic by addition of saturated NaHCO3 and extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated. Purification by silica gel flash chromatography (3→6% MeOH-CH2Cl2) gave the title compound (0.055 g, 57%) as a white solid. M.p.: 148°-149° C.
