Procedure
5.72 g of the above ethyl 3,5-difluoro-6-(N-ethoxycarbonylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoate was dissolved in 70 mL of dichloromethane under argon atmosphere, 4.13 mL of diisopropylethylamine and 1.80 mL of chloromethyl methyl ether were added under ice-cooling and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 20 minutes. Dilute hydrochloric acid was added to the reaction solution and the mixture was extracted with ether. The organic layer was washed with water and an aqueous saturated solution of sodium chloride, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to give ethyl 3,5-difluoro-6-(N-ethoxycarbonylamino)-2-methoxymethoxybenzoate.
