Procedure
To a solution of the methyl ester 5 (1.10 g) in 10 mL of THF and 5 mL of water was added lithium hydroxide monohydrate (172 mg). After two hours, the reaction was cooled to 0° C., and a 1 M solution of HCl/ether (8.2 mL) was added. The solution was concentrated and dried in vacuo next to P2O5 to provide the product 6 as a white solid.
