Procedure
A mixture of (R)-(-)-4-[4-[5-[[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]methyl]-2-oxo-3-oxazolidinyl]-2-fluorophenyl]-1-piperidinecarboxylic acid 1,1-dimethylethyl ester (EXAMPLE 20, Step 6, 13.83 g) and sodium azide (7.62 g) in dry dimethylformamide (117 mL) under N2 is stirred at 60° C. for five hours and at ambient temperature for 16 hours. The mixture is then diluted with ethyl acetate (200 mL), washed with water (8×100 mL) and saline (100 mL), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound, mp 109-110° C.
