Procedure
To a stirred solution of 10.0 g of 3-bromo-4-chlorobenzoic acid in 275 ml of anhydrous dichloromethane at 0° C. were added 7.6 g of 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride and 5.5 ml of triethylamine followed by 3.9 g of N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride. After stirring overnight at room temperature the mixture was washed with 200 ml of water and then with 200 ml of a 1M solution of hydrochloric acid. The organic solution was dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 10.7 g of 3-bromo-4-chloro-N-methoxy-N-methylbenzamide as a cream solid.
