Procedure

1-Acetyl-2,3-dihydro-6-iodo-1H-indol-5-thiol (D49) (0.346 g, 1.08 mmol) in dry DMF (5 ml) was treated with potassium carbonate (0.374 g, 3.71 mmol) followed by picolyl chloride hydrochloride (0.186 g, 1.13 mmol). After 65 h stirring at room temp. the reaction mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure and was partitioned between dichloromethane and water. The aqueous layer was then extracted with dichloromethane and the combined organic layers were then dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a pale brown solid which was dried in vacuo (0.392 g, 89%).
