Procedure

20 mg of (3R,6R,7aS)-6-amino-5-oxohexahydropyrrolo[2,1-b]thiazole-3-carbonitrile trifluoroacetate were dissolved in 1 ml of 1,2-dichloroethane. 2 μl of acetic acid, 6 μl of cyclopentanone and 29 mg of sodium triacetoxyborohydride were successively added. The mixture was heated at 45° C. for 2 h. The solvent was then removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC (Merck RP18, acetonitrile/water (0.5% trifluoroacetic acid), linear gradient (0–>80% acetonitrile)).
