2-[3-(4-Methyl-benzo[b]thiophen-3-ylmethyl)-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzimidazol-1-yl]-ethanesulfonic acid phenyl ester (25 mg, 0.052 mmol) is dissolved in ethanol (1.0 mL) and THF (1.0 mL), 2.0N NaOH solution (1.0 mL) is added into it and the mixture is warmed up to 80° C. for 3 hr. Then 1.0 M HCl solution (5.0 mL) is added along with water (15 mL). The mixture is extracted with EtOAc (3×35 mL) and the organic layers are combined, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give crude product. The crude is then dissolved in 10% MeOH in CH2Cl2 and purified by column chromatography eluting with 10% MeOH in CH2Cl2 to give 12 mg (58%) of 2-[3-(4-Methyl-benzo[b]thiophen-3-ylmethyl)-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzimidazol-1-yl]-ethanesulfonic acid. LCMS (ESMS): m/z 403.08 (M+H+).
