To a solution of 3-(2-amino-phenylamino)-4-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-butyric acid methyl ester (550 mg, 2.1 mmol) in THF (25 mL) was added 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (500 mg, 3.1 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by CombiFlash with 75% EtOAc in Hexane as the eluent to afford the desired 4-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzimidazol-1-yl)-butyric acid methyl ester (420 mg, 70%).
