A mixture of 2-(2-amino-phenylamino)-2-methyl-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (570 mg, 2.3 mmol) in THF (25 mL) was added 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (560 mg, 3.5 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by CombiFlash with 50% EtOAc in Hexane as the eluent to afford the desired 2-methyl-2-(2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-benzimidazol-1-yl)-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (462 mg, 72%).
