Procedure

Triethylamine (36.3 mL, 260.8 mmol) is added to the mixture of crude diethyl 1-{[1-(aminomethyl)cyclopropyl]methyl}-1H-indole-2,6-dicarboxylate (30 g, 86.9 mmol) and K2CO3 (36 g, 260.8 mmol) in ethanol (800 mL). The reaction mixture is heated at 80° C. for 2 h and it is cooled to room temperature and stirred for another 16 h. Solid K2CO3 is removed by filtration and the filtrate is concentrated to afford the crude compound which is purified by flash column chromatography using 3% methanol in CH2Cl2 to afford the title compound (9.2 g, 31% for 3 steps) as a white solid.
