Procedure
5-Fluorocytosine (500 mg) and potassium carbonate (803 mg) were suspended in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL) and ethyl bromoacetate (430 μL) was added to the suspension. The mixture was stirred at 100° C. overnight. The resulting precipitate was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (methylene chloride:methanol=99:1 to 92:9) to give 329 mg (39% yield) of the desired product as a white amorphous.
