To a solution of 3-amino-5-(2,2,2-trifluoro-ethoxy)-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (400 mg, 1.59 mmol) in THF (20 ml) was added 1N sodium hydroxide (2.5 ml, 2.5 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature over night. To the mixture were added 1N HCl (2.39 ml, 2.39 mmol) after stirring for 5 min toluene was added and the solvents were evaporated to provide the title compound together with sodium chloride as an off-white solid. The mixture was used for coupling reactions without further purification.
