Procedure

The compound of Example 16 (340 mg, 1.53 mmol), ethyl 3,4-dihydro-7-(3-iodopropoxy)-8-propyl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-propanoate (685 mg, 1.53 mmol), and potassium carbonate (276 mg, 2.00 mmol) were added to 2.0 ml of DMF, and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Water (50 ml) was added to the reaction mixture and it was extracted four times with 30 ml aliquots of ethyl acetate. The combined ethyl acetate extracts were washed with water, then dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give a brown oil. Chromatography of the oil on silica gel with 30/70 ethyl acetate/hexane as eluant gave the product as a white solid (200 mg).
