A mixture of 12.3 parts of 6-(chloromethyl)quinoline, 9.5 parts of 1H-imidazole, 19.2 parts of potassium carbonate and 135 parts of N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred for 3 hours at 80° C. After evaporation to dry, the residue was taken up in water and further purified according to similar procedures as described in example 12, yielding 10 parts (48%) of 6-(1H-imidazol-1-ylmethyl)quinoline dihydrochloride; mp. 254.6° C. (compound 29).
