Procedure

1.04 g of 2-(imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-6-yl)-2-((4-methoxybenzylthio)(methylimino)methyl)cyclohexanol was suspended in 25 ml of tetrahydrofuran. The obtained suspension was cooled to -60° C., followed by the addition of 300 mg of potassium t-butoxide at once. The obtained mixture was stirred at -60° C. for 2.5 hours, followed by the addition of 0.32 ml of benzyl bromide. The temperature of the obtained mixture was gradually raised to 0° C. in about one hour and the resulting mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 2 hours, followed by the addition of water. The obtained mixture was extracted with chloroform. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and distilled to remove the solvent. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography [solvent: dichloromethane/methanol (50:1)] to give 500 mg of (yield: 39%). the title compound as a pale-yellow oil
