To a solution of 3-bromo-6-fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid (1.35 g, 5.8 mmol, 1.0 eq) and 3-fluorophenyl boronic acid (970 mg, 6.9 mmol, 1.2 eq) in DMF (25 mL) under N2 were added Na2CO3 (2.45 g, 23.1 mmol, 4 eq) and Pd(PPh3)4 (0.33 g, 0.29 mmol, 0.05 eq). The reaction was heated at 95° C. overnight, then the reaction acidified by addition of 4M HCl to a final pH of 4. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and extracted with EtOAc. The organic extract was washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound (680 mg, 48%). This material was used without further purification.
