To a solution of 4-fluoro-3-[[5-(3-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dimethyl-phenyl]methylamino]-2-methyl-phenol (230 mg, 0.65 mmol, 1.0 eq) in DMF (5 mL) was added Cs2CO3 (420 mg, 1.3 mmol, 2.0 eq) and isopropyl 2-bromoacetate (140 mg, 0.78 mmol, 1.2 eq). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 h then water and EtOAc were added. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc and the combined organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue obtained was purified by column chromatography (petroleum ether:EtOAc, 400:1 to 40:7) to give the title compound as a colorless oil (180 mg, 62%).
