Procedure

A solution of 2 (1H)-pyrimidinone (0.61 g, 4 mmol) and glycidol (0.30 g, 4 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added dropwise to a stirred suspension of NaH (0.14 g, 6 mmol) in DMF (5 mL). The reaction mixture is stirred at r. t. until the reagents disappeared (TLC). The reaction mixture is taken up with brine and extracted with EtOAc (3×20 mL). The organic phases are separated, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude residue was chromatographed (Petroleum ether/AcOEt, 1:1, as eluent) to afford pure compound in 30% yield. 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 2.60-2.70 (m, 2H), 3.16 (m, 1H), 3.89-4.04 (m, 2H), 4.17-4.28 (m, 1H), 4.50-4.65 (m, 1H), 7.00 (t, 1H, J=7.4 Hz), 8.56 (d, 2H, J=4.9 Hz).
