Procedure
To a solution of dimethyl 2-bromomethyl-3-methylmaleate (32 mg, 0.13 mmol) in anhydrous dimethylformamide (450 μL) was added piperidine (21 mg, 0.25 mmol) at room temperature, and the mixture was left standing at 50° C. for 4 h. The reaction mixture was directly concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue thus obtained was subjected to silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate 3:2) to give 3 mg of the title compound as oil (yield: 39%).
