Triethylamine (80 μL, 0.577 mmol) and methanesulfonyl chloride (38 μL, 0.488 mmol) were added to solution of N-(5-cyano-4-isopropoxypyridin-2-yl)-7-(dimethoxymethyl)-6-(hydroxymethyl)-3,4-dihydro-1,8-naphthyridine-1(2H)-carboxamide (intermediate 164, 194 mg, 0.439 mmol) in THF (7 ml) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for approximately 2.5 h at 0° C. and filtered to remove solid impurities. The solid residue was washed with THF and the filtrate was concentrated to yield the title compound as slight yellow resin which was used directly in the next step.
