Procedure

A mixture of ethyl 2-thiopheneethanimidate monohydrochloride (ester) (0.05 mol) in tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) was stirred under nitrogen. 2,2-dimethoxyethanamine (0.05 mol) was added portionwise upon cooling and the mixture was stirred overnight. The mixture was evaporated, yielding 15.6 g (100%) of N-(2,2-dimethoxyethyl)-2-thiopheneethanimidamide monohydrochloride (interm. 1).
