Procedure

To a solution of 4-fluoronitrobenzene (5 g, 35.4 mmol) in THF (50 mL), 1-isopropylpiperazine (4.54 g, 35.4 mmol) and K2CO3 (7.35 g, 53.2 mmol) are added. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature overnight. The solvent is removed in vacuo and the residue is partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic layer is washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude compound is purified by silica gel column chromatography using 99:1 and 98:2 DCM:NH3 (7M in MeOH) to give the title compound (8.2 g, 94%).
