Procedure
The crude mixture containing 1a (16.7 g) was dissolved in 500 ml of CH3CN and treated subsequently with 51 ml of NEt3, 25.0 g hydroxybenzotriazole and 31.3 g of N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride and stirring was continued at 22° C. for 30 min. The mixture was treated with 23.1 g of 4-chloroaniline and stirring was continued at 22° C. for 16 h and at 60° C. for 5 h. The mixture was evaporated and the residue partitioned between AcOEt and 0.1 N NaOH. The organic layer was washed with 0.1 N NaOH, 1 N HCl and brine, dried and evaporated to give 13.7 g of the crude title compound 1b.
