As described for example 119a, 1-ethyl-piperazine-2,3-dione was reacted with sodium hydride followed by reaction with ethyl bromoacetate. Aqueous workup followed by chromatography (SiO2, dichloromethane:methanol=100:0 to 94:4) afforded the title compound as a light yellow oil (yield: 72%). MS: m/e=229.4 [M+H]+.
