To a solution of 3-amino-1-benzhydryl-pyrrolidin-2-one (42) (0.2 g, 0.75 mmol in dry DMF (15 ml) was added 2-bromo-N,N-diphenyl acetamide (0.24 g, 0.82 mmol) and NaH (50 mg) under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was heated at 100 degrees overnight. After cooling, the solvent was evaporated and residue was taken up with ethyl acetate (50 ml) and washed with water (2×10 ml). The organic was dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to dryness. The resulting residue was purified by column chromatography using hexane:ethyl acetate (2:1) to give desired product in 73% yield.
