Procedure
The de-tosylated nitrile 38 (26.7 mg, 107 μmol) was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (2.49 g). To this was added potassium carbonate (32.7 mg, 237 μmol) and 30% hydrogen peroxide in water (85.5 mg) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction was diluted with water and the resulting precipitate was washed with water, acetonitrile and ether to give final product 39 (25.3 mg, 88%). 1H NMR DMSO-d6 11.86 (s, 1H), 8.28 (m, 1H), 8.19 (d, 1H), 8.11 (m, 1H), 7.81 (m, 2H), 7.70 (s, 1H), 7.55 (s, 1H), 7.21 (d, 1H), 7.16 (m, 1H), 3.91 (s, 3H). LC/MS(M+1)=268
