Procedure
Diisopropyl azodicarboxylate (296 μL, 1.53 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of triphenylphosphine (402 mg, 1.53 mmol) in THF (4 mL) at 0° C. under argon and the reaction was stirred for 30 min. A solution of thiolacetic acid (109 μL, 1.53 mmol) and 2-(6-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-2-hydroxymethyl-butyric acid ethyl ester (0.27 g, 0.77 mmol) in THF (2 mL) was added dropwise during 10 min. The reaction was stirred for 60 min. at 0° C. and then for 16 h at room temperature. Concentration under reduced pressure followed by chromathography (heptane/EtOAc, 10:1→1:1) gave 2-acetylsulfanylmethyl-2-(6-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-butyric acid ethyl ester (193 mg, 61%).
