Procedure

To 380 mg (0.70 mmol) of compound 109 was added 30 mL of dichloromethane, 3 mL of THF and 1 mL of piperidine. The resulting clear solution was allowed to stir for 3 hours. Then, the reaction was extracted with ethyl acetate and 1N HCl (aqueous). The dried organic layer (magnesium sulfate) was filtered and the volatiles removed in vacuo. The resulting residue was dissolved in dichloromethane and 3 mL of 1 N HCl in diethyl ether and 50 mL of diethyl ether were added to form a precipitate that was collected by vacuum filtration. After drying, this provided 212 mg of compound 111 as the hydrochloride salt.
