Procedure

To a solution of 1α,3β-bis(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-17β-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutylthiomethyl)androsta-5,7-diene (130 mg, 0.215 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (1 ml), was added a 1M tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride tetrahydrofuran solution (2.15 ml, 2.15 mmol), followed by reflux under heating for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was returned to room temperature, diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and evaporated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent. The thus obtained residue was purified by preparative thin layer chromatography (3 sheets (each 0.5 mm thickness), dichloromethane:ethanol=9:1, developed once) to give the titled compound (75.9 mg, 84%) as a white solid.
