118.4 g of sodium sulfate, 26.3 g of hydroxylamine chloride and 20.89 g of chloral hydrate are added, in this order, to a suspension of 14.7 g of 4-fluoro-3-methoxyaniline in 695 ml of water and 35 ml of 2N hydrochloric acid. The reaction mixture is heated at 55° C. for 6 hours. It is cooled to approximately 15° C. The expected compound is obtained and is filtered off, washed and dried.
