To a 0.4M solution of 3,5-dichloro-4-(napthalen-2-ylsulfanyl)phenylamine (90)(153 mg, 0.48 mmol) in THF was added pyridine, obtained from aldrich, (0.19 mL, 2.4 mmol) followed by 2,4-dichlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride, obtained from Maybridge, (129 mg, 0.53 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred for 6 days. A 1M aqueous solution of HCl (20 mL) was added and the crude reaction mixture was extracted 3× with EtOAc (20 mL). The organic layers were combined and washed once with a brine solution (20 mL), dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated under vacuum. The crude solid was chromatographed (5–15% EtOAc in hexane) to yield 125 mg (49%) of 93 as an off white solid.
